Sebastian Bitzer

I grew up in a tiny village in the middle-east of Germany. From there I went to Osnabrück to study Cognitive Science, but before I wrote my Bachelor's Thesis in Peter König's lab I made a half-year visit to Edinburgh (report). After graduation I spent about a year in the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics of German Aeorspace investigating EMG control of a robotic hand. With support from the German Academic Exchange Service I then moved to London and studied for a MSc in Intelligent Systems at UCL (report). My project (thesis) was on spike sorting which I did under supervision of Maneesh Sahani at the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit. From October 2006 to March 2010 I had been back in Edinburgh; this time I was working on my PhD with Sethu Vijayakumar on nonlinear dimensionality reduction for motion synthesis and control. I am currently at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig where I joined Stefan Kiebel's group in April 2010. I now work on models of dynamic perception and action.
